Sir — This refers to the recent meeting between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Police Commissioner BS Bassi in the backdrop of the murder of a young girl in the heart of the city. Controversies apart, the Delhi Police chief should have been professional in his meeting with the democratically-elected Chief Minister of Delhi, by attending the meeting in uniform.
Even though propriety demands a uniform code for compensation to families of murder victims, Mr Bassi had no business trying to hand over a list of 500 similar incidents, ‘suggesting’ that the Delhi Chief Minister likewise award compensation in all those cases.
Undoubtedly, the Delhi Police chief has been taking the serious day-time murder case of a young girl in the busy streets of Delhi casually. A person occupying a highly responsible and sensitive post of head of the capital city’s police force, should not involve himself in political controversies.
