This refers to the editorial, “President Donald Trump” (November 11). The most unlikely winner in the US presidential election history rode to power on a strong white/black divide which saw jobless and disillusioned whites, the working class, the elderly and the rural electorate plumping for him. Throughout, Trump appeared confident despite allegations and insinuations heaped upon him. Trump might have appeared maverick; but his shrewd mind always searched for contentious issues to be thrown open into the public discourse to allure the voters. His distinct style of campaigning and his calculated gamble to go the whole hog against the establishment clicked big.
The Republican candidate cashed-in on the ‘anti-incumbency’ mood of the nation to swing the election his way. Trump's victory speech was sober unlike the man. His call to Americans not to settle for less than the best was visionary. Trump is a businessman-turned-politician, therefore, he should be amenable to suggestions, changes and negotiations.
