Truly disappointing

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Judiciary’s dignity” (July 29). The unseemly spat between the Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam and his recently-retired predecessor Altamas Kabir has certainly put a blemish on the image of the Indian judiciary, particularly the apex court. 

When officers of such high calibre express their rancour and animosity in such a public manner, it is surely a reason for alarm. The behaviour erodes the credibility of the high office they hold. One cannot blame the people for viewing the recent tussle within the portals of justice with disappointment.
