This refers to the report, “Bihar battle: BJP to recall JP’s contributions to nation” (October 6). Jayaprakash Narayan was a true example of India’s ancient culture of liberalism and self-sacrifice for the common good. He was one among the founders of the socialist movement in India.
Socialists quit the Congress-led freedom movement platform in 1946, to form a separate identity. Stalwarts like Ram Manohar lohia, Narendra Deo, Achyut Patwardhan etc, later on founded a pure socialist party after 1946. Jayaprakash Narayan was the inspiration behind it.
In the 1970s, Jayaprakash Narayan organised an all-Opposition party movement against Indira Gandhi’s dictatorial policies and succeeded in removing her from power and securing victory for the biggest Opposition-ruled Janata Party at the Centre. we mustn’t forget his contribution.
