True account

Published on:

Sir — Former Minister of State for External Affairs Natwar Singh has alleged in his autobiography, One life is Not Enough, that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had convinced his mother Sonia Gandhi against becoming the Prime Minister in 2004, because he feared she too could be assassinated like his father Rajiv Gandhi and grandmother Indira Gandhi. But the fact also is that the Congress president cleared most Government files.

Ms Gandhi has refuted the allegations and threatened to write her own book to narrate the “truth”. But how can we be sure that her account will be a truthful oneIJ Will she not make counter-allegations to challenge Mr Singh’s accountIJ It can also be purely fictional. It’s a fact that everything is now available for commercial or personal benefits — often even the publication of books and news.

Mr Singh has said that “Sonia Gandhi has a very hard core, which is un-Indian…” I would say that Ms Gandhi’s face reflects that she has no regret in life for whatever she has done. And she has a lot of ego and anger too.
