Tough times ahead for the king of cricket

The dark underbelly of the Indian Premier league cricket was further exposed after the Supreme Court-appointed committee, constituted to probe the spot-fixing scam, indicted Mr Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI heavyweight N Srinivasan, for placing bets in IPl matches, and pointed to the flow of terror and hawala funds in the game.

The findings of the Justice Mukul Mudgal probe committee couldn't have come at a worse time for Mr Srinivasan. On the verge of becoming the undisputed king of world cricket, having been anointed the chairman of the International Cricket Council's board, Mr Srinivasan's image has taken a beating. However, his authority in the Board of Control for Cricket in India remains unshakeable, and hence his position in the ICC. His Achilles heel is not the betting case; it is a conflict of interest that has him in a bind. It's difficult for him to escape that charge. let's see what the Supreme Court decides.
