Tough challenge

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the news report, “Tough fight: BJP gets all on board” (January 29). The BJP has realised that the Delhi Assembly election will not be a cakewalk for the party as the Aam Aadmi Party is set to give it a tough fight. In fact, the AAP appears to be benefiting from losing ground of both the BSP and the Congress in the polls.

This time, the AAP may gain in the Muslim-dominated seats, majority of which was won by the Congress in the last election. The party has also realised that the mere announcement of Ms Kiran Bedi’s name as Delhi’s chief ministerial candidate will not be sufficient to counter the AAP challenge. The way 11 Union Ministers have been assigned the task of micro-managing preparations for the February 7 poll will certainly increase morale of the party workers. Also, many party candidates are wary of growing dissent in the party over the distribution of tickets. Now, fielding senior leaders to monitor election management in the Assembly seats will help the party to assuage discontent in the cadres.
