This refers to the Election Commission of India having initiated moves to snatch the ‘national' status from three out of six national parties because they did not perform well enough in the last lok Sabha election to meet norms of being national political parties.
With India having got a strong Government with an absolute majority by a single party, and thus not hampered by blackmail from allied partners, it is time to end the nuisance of too many parties, most of which are personality-based dynastic outfits run like family business-shops.
It is ridiculous that some such political bosses have ensured top posts in Government and party for their family members, even if the beneficiaries were undeserving and inexperienced. It is also a matter of concern that rules allow for registration as a recognised political party even if most of the 1,600 registered parties have even not seriously contested elections.
