Third alternative

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the article, “Third Front. Now on, now off...” (April 18) by KG Suresh. The writer has rightly talked about the feasibility of the much-hyped ‘third alternative’ at the Centre, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress facing disillusionment, with their failure to live up to the people’s expectations.

The author is spot on to suggest that there is spacious room for the Third Front in our democracy but only if it is made sure that this third alternative does not appear out of the blue, but evolves leisurely instead, keeping the opportunist elements at bay and adhering to  national interests as a top priority. Hence, a common minimum programme must be reached and acted upon by all the alliances at both the State level as well as at the national level.
