There's limit to patience, apex court must decide

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Case of obstinate judge” (February 15). The judiciary has come a long way over the years on the issue of contempt of court as the judges have realised the need to usher in transparency in their functioning. However, the judiciary cannot take things lying down when it is sought to be converted into a ‘soft target’, especially from one of its own. Justice CS Karnan is testing the patience of the Supreme Court, which has been more than kind to him by tolerating his antics.

Writing to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, alleging discrimination against him, setting aside another sitting single judge's order, barging into a court hall presided over by the Chief Justice, protesting in loud voice in the same court over lower court judges' appointments, engaging in a running feud with the Chief Justice of Madras High Court SK Kaul, not vacating Government bungalow after transfer — are serious allegations against Karnan. The apex court will have to take a final call on Karnan on March 10.
