This refers to the editorial, “Scrap proposed talks” (September 27). As a responsible democratic nation, Pakistan should serve its people's interests. Pakistan's economy, development, peace and normalisation of relations with India are being hindered by terrorists. But when we see Pakistan become one of the safest zones for terrorists in the shade of Pakistani state machinery, it seems that Islamabad's prime purpose is to continue hostilities with India forever.
As a subcontinental leader, India has a larger role and responsibility. In a family, the guardian has a bigger task to perform. A dialogue with Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is of unique value to the international community. India has been saying that no third party mediation is needed for a solution. In this situation, there is no alternative to talks, though the timing is also important. New Delhi should, therefore, talk and forcefully tell Islamabad that promoting terrorism is counter-productive. If Pakistan fails to heed, it will face the consequences.
