This refers to the editorial, “The washout session” (December 19). Sadly, throughout the Winter Session, Parliament was deliberately put to a grinding halt over petty politics. Unreasonable sloganeering, orchestrated dharnas and politically-motivated mud-slinging are nothing but a ‘constitutional sin’. This translates into loss of faith and respect for deliberative law-making. On the other hand, crucial economic legislations are delayed, and important social welfare legislations never see the light of the day. This is one of the perils of being a democratic state, and that too the largest one.
India is at a crucial juncture. The world is looking up to us as a bright spot of the world economy, and expects us to be the next growth engine of the world. We cannot afford to stall our legislative machinery. This is the time when we need our Parliament the most. Parliamentarians must not fail us.
