The threat is from a united fundamentalist Islam

This refers to the article, “Terror turf war that threatens India” (September 6) by Hiranmay Karlekar. Whatever the supposed infighting among the Islamist forces is about, let us be clear on the fact that these groups are all united on the imposition of Islamic law, and that their fight is between the Islam and the rest.

The writer should not get too excited about ‘loyal Muslims'. The problem lies in that Islam, as a religion, also serves as a diktat for Islamic society. Until the imposition of religious directives is separated from social behaviour, we will face a united Islamist society.

There are enough senseless people who will seek the ‘72 virgins' as their goal. When the mosque and the society are separated, then perhaps the minority of such cases can be dealt with the help of a simple police action, and prosecuted in the manner that ordinary criminals are. let us go after the core problem instead of beating around the bush.
