The good administrator is back with a bang

This refers to the editorial, “Return of Jayalalithaa” (May 25). After remaining out in the cold for more than eight months, following her conviction in a more-than-a-decade-old disproportionate assets case, Ms J Jayalalithaa is back as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In her absence, the State administration was directionless.

With hardly 10 months left for the next Assembly election, she must make up for lost time and get the State moving. Her return is as per popular mandate. But, often, what is popular may not be constitutionally and morally edifying. Ideally, only those with proven moral character ought to be worthy of the people’s trust.

However, at least in the case of Ms Jayalalithaa, there is a redeeming factor. She is a good administrator who can be relied upon to boost all-round growth and development in Tamil Nadu. A decisive Government can be her trump card.
