This refers to the article, “Congress facing an existential crisis” (June 10) by Kalyani Shankar. The decline of the Congress is an arresting story written time and again; but this time the party is at the nadir of its influence in national politics. The party’s failure to project a suitable chief ministerial candidate in most of the Assembly elections harmed its prospects. The results are a lesson for the party; it is on a steady decline in the country’s political arena. The Congress’ revival pivots on its ability to address the present crisis, encourage State leaders and functioning as a vigorous Opposition in Parliament.
On Congress-mukt Bharat, the BJP is making a deeper dent. The new generation wants development and an aggressive bold-minded leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s plans may be well-intentioned, but do not yield results. The Congress scion has failed to become an effectual administrator and a visionary leader. The way ahead for the Congress is to focus on the welfare of the people and stop criticising Modi.
