This refers to the report, “Kerala's Congress petitions AICC against Tharoor” (October 9). Mr Shashi Tharoor is an intellectual, an accomplished writer and a polished and impressive speaker.
He is unsuited to the rough and tumble of Indian politics. As far as the Congress is concerned, those aspiring to rise to ‘good' positions were perhaps upset, jealous and sore that an ‘outsider', which they consider Mr Tharoor to be, was brought in out of nowhere and made a Union Minister in the United Progressive Alliance regime.
When others in the Congress fell by the wayside in the 2014 election, he won, and is among the few Congress MPs in the lok Sabha. His rivals within the Congress are scared that he may rise further, and thus needs to be pulled down. The only way Mr Tharoor can silence them is with either Ms Sonia Gandhi’s or Mr Rahul Gandhi’s open support to him. Congressmen listen to only them.
