Terror address sent some explicit messages for all

This refers to the editorial, “State of terror address” (January 14). US President Barack Obama's two-term presidency has had mixed reception in the US and the rest of the world. Many of his domestic policies were taken with a pinch of salt by the US citizens and many countries were resentful of his foreign policies.

President Obama, without trying much to negate these perceptions, was able to send some explicit messages to the people in the US and the Opposition party. No one needs to look beyond the US for understanding the importance of technological advances as tools to boost the job market, and the US President's reiteration of this fact emphasised how the US has retained its “global leader” status for dreamy-eyed youngsters.

However, Mr Obama's hope that the US will engage all like-minded countries to counter terror should reassure global leaders who were disillusioned by Washington's tendency to unilaterally fight terror. This stance of Mr Obama assumes significance in the wake of recent terror attacks.
