Sir — Though Greg Chappell has denied allegations against him by Sachin Tendulkar, that he tried to persuade the star batsman to replace Rahul Dravid as India’s captain before the 2007 World Cup, the latter has received the backing of three of his then teammates, Messrs VVS laxman, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh.
We all know that Mr Tendulkar hardly ever spoke out of turn as long as he played for India. His speech was always measured and his words never betrayed emotion. The only time he was probably rattled and decided to react was when Greg Chappell tried to tinker with his batting order or he was removed from captaincy summarily. Mr Tendulkar’s credentials as a player and an individual cannot be questioned. When he decided to tell his story, it cannot be only about what happened out in the middle; he was bound to also discuss other things as well in his book.
