Sir — The possible formation of a Telangana State has created tension in the nation.
The contentious issue has been lying in limbo for long, and the UPA has dithered on the matter, bowing to extraneous pressures.During UPA1, it was a slip between the cup and the lip for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi which had almost brokered a deal with the Government. It is unfortunate that considerations of political gain and loss have taken centre-stage when putting in place a new State, while other factors like convenience and governance have taken a back seat.
In the absence of a vote-catcher, and leader who had the capacity to hold the State together, Mr YS Rajashekara Reddy, has propelled the Congress to delay its decision so far.
While there are mixed examples before us of smaller States being able to do justice, there is no doubt that the idea of a Telangana State has met with emotionally surcharged reactions, as the issue involves regional pride — and the biggest bone of contention, Hyderabad.
