Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Palace coup at Tatas” (October 26). The ouster of Cyrus Mistry could have been handled in a far more mature manner than it was done. More so when the Tata group is known for its high standards of ethics and integrity.
At this juncture, we cannot confirm about the real reason behind Mistry’s exit, but the speculation that is doing the rounds is that Ratan Tata may not have liked Mistry’s decision to sell some of the jewels in the group and the way the telecom issue was handled.
Ratan Tata always believed in creating an institution rather than a mere company. Having said that, during Mistry’s tenure, market capitalisation of the Tata group rose manifold. Thus, shareholders would like to know the truth behind his ouster.
On the other hand, the biggest challenge for Ratan Tata is to find a worthy successor to Mistry because, after his exit, most of the potential candidates would be more than cautious to take up the role.
