Tarnished image

Sir — This refers to the article, “Under surveillance, the home of a hero” (April 11) by Ashok Malik. The recent revelations about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru spying on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his family take the sheen out of the first Prime Minister, supposedly a great democrat and liberal leader. By the time Nehru occupied the top spot, he possibly knew for sure that Netaji was no more. Yet, he spied on the leader’s family members because he did not want them to do any ‘mischief’.

This scandal is also a good lesson for present leaders: Stop the snooping for political or personal reasons.
