This refers to the editorial, “Modi's call for dialogue” (August 24). The Prime Minister’s call for a dialogue with stakeholders in the Kashmir issue, within the parameters of the Constitution, should be welcome. Violence is no answer, and neither is the use of pellet guns to control mobs any solution. Indeed, the Government should seriously consider banning pellet guns which has caused so much damage and generated such bad Press.
All stakeholders should be called for talks to resolve the issue. Over 100 people have died now and an equal number died in 2010 when stonepelters were engaged by the separatists to create confusion in the valley. Unfortunately, most stonepelters are youngsters.
These youths should be given good education and employment so that they are not misled. Moreover, development is a must and should be given priority by both the State and Union Governments.
