Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Afghanistan horrified” (June 2). A savage terrorist attack marred the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan in Afghanistan. More than 90 persons, including children, died when the Taliban carried out the suicide blast near a diplomatic area. Mercifully, Indian diplomats came away unscathed. Three embassies suffered slight damage in the attack.
The Taliban has not taken responsibility so far. The perpetrators, in demonstrating their resentment over foreign presence in Afghanistan, ironically ended up murdering and maiming their compatriots. The grim reality is that the Taliban, on current form, could take Kabul. It’s not just the Taliban but other terror groups too that are active in Afghanistan.
