Taking responsibility

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Monsoon heaps miseries” (August 5). The editorial aptly highlights the effects of extreme weather conditions that is causing huge damage, by days of torrential rains across large parts of the country. At least 180 people have died and more than a million people have now fled their homes due to rainfall.

For West Bengal, Manipur  and Odisha there is no respite. Thousands of villages have been marooned. It is unfortunate that instead of looking to these calamities, the Congress is busy displaying placards, shouting slogans, sitting on dharnas and disturbing the peaceful running of both the Houses.

When 25 Congress MPs were suspeded on August 3, street demonstrations were held and Rajya Sabha was paralysed on August 4. It is high time that our representatives discuss the calamities caused by widespread rains and provide for reliefs to the affected people. It is very easy to say that suspension of undisciplined MP’s is a murder of democracy.
