Sir — This refers to the report, “UPA to take legitimacy war to SC” (November 9) by Abraham Thomas. For the common man, the Gauhati High Court verdict may come as a shock, but it should not be for the Congress-led UPA Government. The startling ruling and its analysis raises several issues.
There is no dearth of legal brains in the Government, and they are expected to find a way out of the legal crisis. But it is surprising that even legal luminaries like Mr Kapil Sibal, Mr Salman Khurshid and Mr P Chidambaram had not seen the verdict coming. After all, there must have been some legal shortcoming in the manner the CBI came into being, for the High Court to have passed this verdict.
