Take strong action

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the report, “Pak Army kills 5 jawans on Indian soil” (August 7). The cowardly ambush by the Border Action Team of the Pakistani Army and trained militants against our jawans is shocking.

Unfortunately, this is not the first and neither will it be the last attack, given the frequent violations and unprovoked firing at the line of Control. This is the second major provocation from Pakistan after the beheading of an Indian soldier in Poonch early this year. But expecting any firm action against Pakistan is like asking for the moon.

The UPA Government will be best remembered for its usual rhetoric and nothing more. Once the anger and outrage of the people subsides over the killing, the Government will be back to holding talks with Pakistan and doing business. Ironically, peace in the contemporary world, where jihad has become a way of life for certain people, is an obsolete term. The need of hour is to be more aggressive and assertive, not more submissive.
