Sir — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s enthusiasm to improve relations with neighbouring countries is commendable. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit had raised a ray of hope that tensions with China would ease. But even as Mr Xi was in India, Chinese troops had entered Indian soil. There is no substitute to a settlement of the border dispute. But it appears that China is more interested in promoting a market for its product in India.
While India must take steps to end the repeated incursions by the Chinese, it must also work faster to boost its economy to match or even outdo China’s pace in the years to come.
