Tacit acceptance

Sir — This refers to the brutal assault and the death of the Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan’s Kot lakhpat jail. The incident was tragic and has rightly evoked strong emotions in this country. But what makes Singh’s case cry out for attention is the fact that it signifies a larger failure of the system and the abject loss of humanity.

That said, while one is not trying to be insensitive, one wonders why Sarabjit Singh was accorded a full state honour, with his coffin draped with the TricolourIJ By doing so, is the Government  accepting the fact that Sarabjit Singh was indeed working for the Government and the Indian intelligence agenciesIJ Or is it just a ploy to appease mass reaction to his horrific murder, keeping in mind the general election in 2014IJ
