Sustainable India

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Major step for clean air” (October 5). The Modi Government has taken a lead in drawing up a sustainable path to development through its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions for climate change. By committing to reduce emissions, incorporating a larger share of renewable energy in its power basket and increasing its forest cover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pitched to correct the narrative that casts India as an obstructionist outlier in sharing climate change responsibility.

Mr Modi’s call to the developed countries to provide access to finance and technology to enable emerging economies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is in the spirit of the principle of common but differentiated responsibility. The Government should look forward to develop a sustainable environment plan.
