This refers to the report, “25 unruly Cong MPs shown door” (August 4). This is a welcome decision. We had been witnessing Congress-led disruption of both Houses of Parliament for the last 10 days with deep dismay. How could some popularly elected, educated members of the lok Sabha, defy and ignore the polite and repeated gentle warnings of a dignified Speaker like Ms Sumitra MahajanIJ Despite her continued warnings, they displayed placards in the House, shouted slogans and even disrupted the proceedings. Since all her polite, persuasive efforts failed to curb the unruly behaviour of a group of MPs, she had no alternative but to suspend them for five days.
Shockingly, instead of mulling over her party MPs' offensive actions which were visibly inspired by her, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has hypocritically called the expulsion as a ‘black day’ for the democracy. She has even decided to sit on a dharna with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other leaders outside the Parliament House to protest.
