This refers to the editorial, “On the side of the truth” (July 23). I fully endorse the views. There was no need or legal basis for a resolution condemning Israel and censuring Israel as suggested by CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury.
Both Israel and Palestine have been recognised by India. The Centre's view that violence must end, reconciliation arrived at and an early ceasefire as suggested by Egypt enforced, is absolutely correct. It is the terrorist organisation Hamas which is a hindrance to peaceful reconciliation of the Israel-Palestine dispute.
The Congress, its allies in the opposition and the left parties in the Rajya Sabha were pleading the cause of terrorists. They walked out when the Government refused to bring a resolution. They should have discussed humanitarian relief to the affected civilians, as pleaded eloquently by Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj in her brilliant speech in the Rajya Sabha.
