Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Kings are forever” (May 29). Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on May 27, saw the conclusion of the 51-day cricket extravaganza wherein eight teams, comprising star players from all countries participated. The high-octane summit clash between MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with Kane Williamson at the helm battled for the crown.
Playing first, SRH scored a significant total of 178 runs with captain Kane making highest in his side — 47 runs off 36 balls while Yousuf Pathan also contributed with 45 from 25 deliveries — but rest of the players could not cut much ice.
In reply, Watson smashed 117 off in just 57 balls and blasted all the bowlers from SRH, while Suresh Raina added 32 of 24 before he was bowled by Carlos Brathwaite and, thus, the 11th season of the IPl went in the name of CSK for the third time, which also saw some costly players not coming up to their fans expectations that include Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Maxwell, Pollard and Virat Kohli to name.
