Such talks of 'dignity' do not make sense

This refers to the report, “UPA blows its own trumpet” (May 23) and Congress president Sonia Gandhi's statement that the “Prime Minster is carrying out his responsibilities with great dignity in the face of abuse from the Opposition”.

In view of recent exposures of financial impropriety and the acts of omission and commission of the Manmohan Singh-led Government, one wonders what ‘dignity' Ms Gandhi is talking about. One feels sorry to hear what the people have to say about ‘Mr Clean' today. Starting with the 2G Spectrum scam, Mr Singh has looked the other way, ignoring his bounden duty as head of the Government to check all acts of impropriety taking place under him.

Now, with the needle of suspicion in the Coalgate pointing directly towards him, Mr Singh's reputation and that of the entire dispensation under him and also Ms Gandhi has taken a severe beating. There seems to be now no ground for him to continue in office any more. But the act of relinquishing office with dignity and grace appears to be beyond Mr Singh. And Ms Gandhi talks about ‘dignity'. What a pity!
