This refers to the shocking news report, “Did Minister favour son over nationIJ” (May 15) by Kumar Uttam.
We salute your fearless reportage of the shenanigans of the corrupt Congress-led UPA regime and the less-than-honest intent of many Ministers in charge of key ministries. A case in point is the new Union Minister for law and Justice, Mr Kapil Sibal's first-day initiative for settlement of a Rs 11,217 crore tax dispute with British telecom major, Vodafone. The news that the telecom giant has been a client of Mr Sibal's lawyer-son, makes this haste for an out-of-court settlement, even more suspect, and one of an issue of conflict of interest. Clearly, one is forced to wonder whether the Union law Minister is any better or different from the two former Union Ministers, who were recently forced to resign from office after facing charges of political impropriety, nepotism and financial indiscretion.
Unfortunately, reshuffles and resignations notwithstanding, personal integrity, professional ability, ethics, and moral standards of those occupying high office as Union Ministers, have remained as unedifying and disappointing as ever.
