Sir — As Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in Washington on a state visit later this month, all eyes will be on the camaraderie that he and President Donald Trump develop — or fail to develop, as they work to realise common ends and fulfil shared interests. Irrespective of the stark contrast in temperament, tactics and style, both Prime Minister Modi and President Trump will have to make concerted efforts to set the stage for a fruitful partnership.
The biggest advantage that India has is the bipartisan support for a strong and positive India-US relationship, that needs to be harnessed. One hopes that aside from the euphoria and outpour of diaspora support that will undoubtedly greet Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival in the US, the visit will also be marked by a genuine working relationship between the two leaders, one that will be beneficial for India now and in the years to come.
