Strong leadership is now vital for growth of J&K

This refers to the editorial, “Crisis resolved in J&K” (March 28). Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s doctrine of peace, progress and prosperity in Jammu & Kashmir in the spirit ofinsaniyat (humanity), jamhuriyat (democracy) and kashmiriyat (identity of the people of Kashmir), has finally been acclaimed by political leaders of all hues, including the separatists and extremists in the valley. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Jammu & Kashmir in 2014, articulated “development, development and development” as his only mantra and added that “I will return your trust in me with interest by ensuring full-fledged development in J&K”. The PDP-BJP ‘Agenda of Alliance’ marked a welcome departure from politics of anti-federalism and communalism that was opposed any democratic and progressive action in the State.

It is heartening that after months of hide-and-seek, the BJP and the PDP have laid all speculation of undemocratic subversion to rest. A strong leadership is now imperative for the development of the State.
