Strict vigilance

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Killings not justified” (July 1).  It gives a sigh of relief that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the killing of innocent humans in the name of cow and has also warned the  fake gau rakshaks who indulge in such barbaric act. 

But if the culprit had been caught and punished immediately, it would have worked as a strong deterrent. Warning is ineffective in the case of people with a criminal mindset.

Moreover, it has been seen that in public places, if one person of a gathering indulges in any wicked act, howsoever diabolic  it may be, the entire mob invariably follows the suit without a second thought. Hence, it is essential for the police to be vigilant and prevent such incidents and sternly deal with anti-social elements.
