This refers to the report, “Congress, JD(U) flay Modi; BSP MP supports him” (July 14). Secularists, both politicians and commentators, pounced on Mr Narendra Modi because he called himself a Hindu nationalist. Their conduct betrays their inherent or acquired bias against Hindus. They need to answer two questions: First, since Mahatma Gandhi addressed MA Jinnah as his ‘Muslim brother', was he communalIJ The second question relates to the period during the freedom struggle, when Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Rafi Ahmad Kidwai were referred to by commentators and other Congress leaders as ‘Muslim nationalists'. Did that make these great men communalIJ
It is healthy to note that Bahujan Samaj Party MP Vijay Bahadur Singh supported Mr Modi's statement, with a rider that it was his personal opinion. His party supremo has expectedly hit out at Mr Modi. The so-called secularists always mention ‘2002’ while discussing Mr Modi. I request them to add ‘1990’ along with it, as the year signifies the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir.
