Stopping progress

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Too little and too late” (December 21). Plato, the philosopher, rightly said, “Excessive increase of anything causes a reaction in the opposite direction.” This adage is apt for the Opposition, especially the Congress. After realising that there are no takers for its absurdity, the Congress agreed to let the Rajya Sabha function for the last three days. It also agreed to work extra hours to get crucial Bills passed.

The editorial has rightly said that it is unfortunate that the most important Bill, the Goods and Services Tax Bill, may not go through this session. Had this Bill been passed, the country would have marched at least a few steps more towards the path of progress. Even the Bill to amend the juvenile justice Act hanged fire for months together. This is disgraceful.
