Stop machinations, form a single oppostion party

This refers to the report, “Even Modi will lose poll in 2019: Rahul” (April 9). Congress president Rahul Gandhi has made a very wishful prediction which reminds one of an English proverb, ‘If wishes were horses, beggars would ride’. No doubt, Rahul Gandhi is leaving no stone unturned, fair or foul, to unseat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. In doing so, he is even prepared to play second or even third fiddle to various State-level parties. This is not only pitiable for an old party like the Congress, but is also an admission of the fact that personally, Rahul Gandhi is no match to the Prime Minister.

As far as other aspiring Opposition leaders are concerned, each one, whom claims to speak the voice of the nation, find themselves sailing in the same boat as that of Rahul Gandhi. They are, thus, preparing to take on Modi jointly which is akin to the unholy practice of all wrestlers jumping together in the ring to fight the champion wrestler. In doing so, they are saying goodbye to clear ideas about various policies, be it related to economics or defence or foreign affairs whatever they wish to follow. Would it, therefore, not be proper and morally correct on their part to stop machination and either form a single opposition party or at least name a face who can be an alternative to ModiIJ Otherwise, the country will again face the fiasco of an erstwhile Janta Dal days.
