Still trustworthy?

Sir — This refers to the news that the United States has refuted reports that it had given a certification to Pakistan and cleared aid worth $523 million to that country. Despite the rebuttal, the US, based on its track record of providing generous financial help to Pakistan in the name of civil use, knowing well that such money got used to build Pakistan’s offensive against India, cannot be trusted.

Did not former President George HW Bush want to declare Pakistan a ‘terrorist state’IJ Did not former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage ask of Pakistan: “Are you going to side with the civilised world or with Taliban and Al QaedaIJ” And, even after American diplomats called Pakistan the ‘world’s migraine’ and a country which reared snakes in its backyard, how is it that the US has not revised its policy and continues to do business with IslamabadIJ The US should realise that Islamabad is not fighting against terrorism but against its inconvenient Taliban, leaving other dreaded terrorist outfits, especially those who have targeted India, untouched.
