Sir — The incident involving Tehelka chief Tarun Tejpal is a classic example of a deep-rooted malady that afflicts Indian society: The wide disparity between preaching and practising.
A torch-bearer of investigative journalism and instrumental in unearthing many scams and scandals is now involved in a reprehensible crime. The recent cases involving politicians, a retired Supreme Court judge and an editor show the extent to which our moral fabric has crumbled. The fact that Mr Tejpal continues to harass, intimidate, coerce and influence the victim speaks volumes about the enormity of the situation. In such circumstances, the law enforcement agencies should create a security cordon around the victim so as to enable her to pursue the case and take it to a logical conclusion.
