Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Going beyond economics” (July 25). It is a well-known fact that leading economist Amartya Sen is a leftist. The problem with the communists is they always fail to explain how they will reduce poverty without generating the money. Going by their political ideology, all the industries should be under strict state control, leaving no room for independent enterprise. But what happens if the industries go bankrupt due to wrong policies, corruption, problems with the unions etcIJ Will the communists then rush to their ‘Big Brother’ in China or Russia or the ‘bourgeois-controlled’ World Bank for a bail-outIJ
Perhaps, Mr Sen feels that his economic theories are falling flat in the wake of the Gujarat model of development, and hence, he decided to attack Mr Narendra Modi!
