This refers to the editorial, “End the water battle” (November 14). The water war issue has not cropped up within a fortnight. It has been going on since the time when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister. Sadly, there has been no resolution till date. Now with the Supreme court's verdict, this issue will get all the more murkier as the Congress has politicised it.
The Union Government must interfere and ensure that none of the State's people suffer because of Punjab's arm twisting and do justice with the people of Haryana. It was ony recently that we saw a similar situation panning out in the southern State of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which resulted in not only loss of human lives, but also loss of public property. last but not the least, this issue does not augur well for the Delhi Government too which is also dependent on Haryana for water supply. The need of the hour is that all stakeholders of States viz, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, sit together alongwith the Union Government for a mutually acceptable resolution.
