Statehood justified

Published on:

Sir — Unlike last time, Mr Arvind Kejriwal has begun well by meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after winning the Delhi election. With a 67-3 score in his favour, his call for full statehood for Delhi cannot be ignored. Naturally, Mr Kejriwal wasted no time in making the demand. Of course, the Prime Minister neither accepted nor rejected the Chief Minister’s demand.

As Chief Minister, Ms Sheila Dikshit too had called for the Delhi Police to function under the State Government so that the latter could take complete responsibility on law and order issues. Full statehood has been an election promise of political parties, including the BJP, for many years. The onus is now on the Centre to respond positively.
