This refers to the article, “Stalling the House serves no purpose” (August 21) by Devender Singh. One disagrees with the writer's contention that the disruption of Parliament dents the image of the House. In fact, stalling Parliament is an unfailing and effective tool in the hands of the Opposition to put the Government on the mat on various issues.
If the Treasury benches are not ready to listen to the Opposition, the Opposition has no option but to disrupt the functioning of the House. Had the BJP and other political parties not stalled Parliament, scams such as the 2G Spectrum, coal block allotment, Commonwealth Games etc would not have been exposed, and the public would not have been any wiser about them. The latest is the case of missing files related to the coal scam, in which the office of the Prime Minister is under a cloud. The Opposition has no option but to resort to pandemonium so that its voice reaches a Government that has conveniently cloistered itself in an ivory tower.
