This refers to the article, “Hosting Asian Games is not India's priority” (July 5) by Ashok Malik. The author has offered timely advice to the new Government. If at all we host an event, it should be the Olympics — and that too sometime 30 to 40 years later. Our sports bodies have become hotbeds of corruption. All kinds of vested interests, political and business, have come into play, and they are far removed from the desire to promote sports and sporting talent.
The reason why a nation of 70 crore youth cannot make its presence felt as a sports power is because our sports administration has been in a mess. If countries like Ivory Coast and Costa Rica can produce world-class football players, why cannot weIJ Many of our sports administrators deserve to be in jail. It is shocking that they are trying to sell nightmares to the NDA regime.
