Sir — For some time now Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has been insulting the Congress by calling it “unreliable and anti-people” and stating that those who oppose its policies are intimidated by the threat of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Yet, Mr Yadav continues to extend support to the Congress, ostensibly to keep ‘communal forces’ out of power. He is afraid that the disproportionate assets cases against him will be reopened and the CBI set on him.
He also seems to forget that if he is indeed guilty in the aforementioned case, then he may not escape the law even if the Congress is ousted from power at the Centre. He is also ignoring the fact that by extending his party’s support to the ‘anti-people’ policies of the Congress, he is undermining the image of his own party.
If the SP chief considers himself above board, let him withdraw his support to the Congress and face the law. Otherwise, it will be presumed that he is extracting his pound of flesh with an eye to the 2014 poll.
