Souls not in peace

Sir - This refers to the editorial "Nobody killed Aarushi" (October 13). In the Jessica lal murder verdict, a decade back, in which the lower court had pronounced 'No one killed Jessica'. Now, comes the essentially the same verdict, this time from Allahabad High Court. But unlike in the previous case in which the witnesses had allegedly turned hostile owing to the money and muscle power of the main accused, Manu Sharma, this case has had no witnesses. The shoddy and botched up investigation of the SHO of the area where the high-profile murder took place has led to the actual murderer(s) getting away scot-free. The acquittal of the Talwar couple on whom the needle of suspicion has been from Day One may be breathing a sigh of relief but no accountability has been fixed for the washing of the scene of crime or the alacrity with which the cremation of Aarushiwas performed without waiting for post-mortem report. let us be clear: The high court has of course not stated that the couple is innocent, but because of want of conclusive evidence and a botched-up investigation has given them the benefit of doubt.
