Some are more equal

Sir — This refers to the article, “Innocent victims of sham secularism” (September 16) by Balbir Punj. The Constitution of India states that all people of this country are equal, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. But in reality, this is clearly not so.
We are living in times when the politics of appeasement is vigorously pursued over the politics of equity and general uplift and development of society. And this seems to be the sole aim of many political leaders, especially from the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress. They pander to the whims of the minorities, to the exclusion of all others, just to keep their votes intact. The day is not far when India will have to redefine the term ‘secular’ to suit the current situation.
